Mockingbird and How Sweet It Is

James Taylor and Carly Simon were married to each other from 1972 to 1983.

Mockingbird is an adaptation by Inez and Charlie Foxx of the traditional lullaby Hush Little Baby. The Foxxes (sister and brother) recorded it in 1963, when it reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was released in the UK by Island Records, but wasn't a hit until its re–release in 1969, when it reached No. 33.

Mockingbird was covered by Carly Simon in 1973, and released the following year. It reached No. 5 in the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 34 in the UK. The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles notes that it "includes uncredited vocals by James Taylor".

How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) was written by the Tamla Motown songwriting team of Holland, Dozier and Holland, and recorded by Marvin Gaye. On release as a single in 1964 it reached No. 6 in the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 49 in the UK.

How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) was covered in 1966 by Jr. Walker and the All–Stars. It reached No. 5 in the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 22 in the UK.

James Taylor released How Sweet It Is, featuring Carly Simon on harmony vocals, in 1975. It reached No. 5 in the Billboard Hot 100, but failed to trouble the UK charts.
